Position Title:  Regional Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Reports To:  Director of EHS

Overview of Position:


The Regional EHS Manager (REHSM) serves as the technical Safety resource for the oversight and support to environmental, safety and health programs. Sets strategic direction in line with Corporate ESH objectives and reinforces the importance of Health and Safety for Phoenix Services. Manages the overall Health and Safety programs, including development and implementation of goals, strategies, procedures, and practices within their scope of responsibility. Works with site management teams and the Dir of EHS to integrate Health and Safety performance and compliance into each facility’s operation. Develops opportunities to provide strategic and competitive advantage through cross-functional interaction. Provides leadership to drive continuous improvement in Health and Safety performance, while assuring comprehensive operational compliance. This position will work direclty with trained EHS Professionals of Phoenix Services operations.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for maintaining and improving Corporate Health and Safety programs to ensure compliance with current and future legal, Customer and corporate requirements.
  2. Manages regular strategic review of EHS in the region and provides appropriate objectives and programs to improve overall EHS performance to defend against future liabilities.
  3. Provides leadership and direction to site location’s management teams.
  4. Leads a team of highly trained EHS professionals to implement the Corporate SMS
  5. Tracks metrics and drives Health and Safety improvement and performance in the region.
  6. Develops, supports, and executes processes to reduce team member injury and lost time rates, and to pro-actively manage Worker’s Compensation cases.
  7. Leads by example a culture of safety through his actions, communications, promotions, and Behavioral Based Safety Training.
  8. Manages all Health and Safety regulatory reporting requirements for their region.
  9. Hold Managers and Supervisors at all levels accountable for the Safety Performance of their operations.
  10. Represents the company on Health and Safety affairs with relevant external parties ensuring adequate response to all regulatory and Customer issues.
  11. Provides support for Corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives.
  12. Conduct annual Safety Management Systems Audits to verify continuing compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  13. Oversee annual line item budgeting for EHS P&L in the region and for self.
  14. Sets the example of safety leadership and leads through influencing others.
  15. Oversee/assist with incident investigations and corrective action identification.  Implements changes to policies/procedures to prevent future incidents.
  16. Communicate current trends in inspections, audits and incidents to the Dir EHS
  17. Provide professional knowledge in safety and health to site level safety and management teams.
  18. Assist with the development and delivery of ESH training.

 

Additional Objectives to be Successfully Completed in First 90 Days:

 

  1. Establish routine meeting cadence with each facilities management teams (GM)
  2. Review each facility’s Safety Goals during routine meetings for continuous improvement.
    1. Perform GAP Analysis
  3. Create Goals and Objectives with direct manager.
  4. Drive the Phoenix Safety Culture across all reporting facilities.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment, routinely using standard office equipment such as computers and phones. There will be moderate travel in the U.S. associated with this job.  Travel will include site visits that are categorized as heavy industrial.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. Frequent sitting will be necessary.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited college or university, preferably in SHEQ related field
  • 10+ years’ experience or management in an EHS role

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Multi-site responsibility
  • Master of Science in Occupational Safety, Master of Science in Environmental Engineering or a Master of Science in a related field
  • ASP, GSP or CSP Certification
